Ennis healthcare campaigners are arguing that a review which they claim documents the “terrible” experience of a patient at UHL reaffirms the need for an emergency department in Clare.

The Friends of Ennis Hospital campaign group has conducted a review of the Dooradoyle facility’s ED based on the experience of ‘Patient A’ who spent 82 hours on a trolley there last week.

Data collected during the patient’s stay shows over 70% of those waiting for a bed at the time were over 70 while 40% were from Clare.

Friends of Ennis Hospital Chairperson Angela Coll has been telling Clare FM’s Seán Lyons the fact that such high numbers of Clare people are presenting at the facility supports the case for an A&E in Ennis.
