Fresh Doubt Over Future Of 60-Bed Unit At UHL

Fresh doubt has been cast over the future of a planned 60-bed modular unit aimed at alleviating overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.

In a response to Labour TD Alan Kelly, the HSE says it awaits confirmation of funding for the project and it will be assessed in the context of competing priorities.

But as recently as November, when on a visit to the Midwest, Health Minister Simon Harris confirmed €19.5 million in funding for the unit, which is seen as key to addressing overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick.
