A planned 60-bed modular unit to relieve overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick has been hit with a fresh delay.
The unit, which is already at least a year away, had received planning permission from Limerick City and County Council, but this is now being appealed by a Dooradoyle resident.
It means there may be a delay of around six months to the 14 million euro development which is seen as as an important boost in easing pressures at the hospital.
However, the UL Hospitals Group has told The Irish Examiner they are hopeful the matter will be resolved, and that it will not affect the project.
The A&E department at UHL continues to be the most overcrowded in the country, regularly topping the INMO’s trolleywatch report and this latest delay is due to an appeal against the unit by Dooradoyle resident Joe McNamara.
