A North Clare Councillor is making fresh calls for lifeguard services to be provided at Clare’s most prominent beaches at weekends during the month of May.
The current bathing season is designated between June 1st and September 15th, though sea swimming in areas such as Lahinch and Kilkee outside of those dates has become more popular in recent years.
Clare County Council says it’s concerned the number of lifeguards in full time education would be a ‘significant issue’ to providing a service in May.
However, Lahinch-based Green Party Councillor Liam Grant, who himself has served as a lifeguard, insists it would provide value for money.
