Fresh calls are being made for what’s been described as “the injustice” of using revenue collected from the local property tax in Clare, to prop up other counties, to be corrected.
It comes as new figures from Revenue show the liability for Clare properties is 10.42 million euro for last year, while the equivalent figure for 2022 was 10.37 million.
47,282 property owners in this county have so far filed returns for the valuation period between 2022 and 2025, and of these, 165 were newly liable for the tax in 2023.
A portion of the revenue collected will go towards an equalistion fund used to support twenty other local authority areas areas across the country where revenue from the tax is lower.
Lisseycasey Fianna Fáil Councillor PJ Kelly has long been opposed to this measure and he’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that, now more than ever, that funding needs to stay in this county.
