Fresh calls are being made on the government to provide increased funding for the primary school in Lisdoonvarna as the next step in integrating the asylum seeker community there.
It’s after close a grant of almost 90,000 euro was agreed in principal for a community creche there, following the arrival of the asylum seekers to the town in recent months.
The group, made up of families and children, are currently living in the Direct Provision Centre at the King Thomond Hotel, which opened for the first time in March.
Clare’s Junior Minster Pat Breen this week urged the Department of Education to step up efforts to provide increased resources and Chair of Lisdoonvarna Fáilte, Paddy Dunne has echoed that, saying it’s vital that the next tranche of Government funding is focused on the school:
