Fresh bid over National Children’s Hospital

A bid to locate the National Children’s Hospital at the Mater hospital site in Dublin will be relaunched today, when representatives of the Mater, the Rotunda and Temple Street Hospitals meet.

The three-hospital consortium say they’ve adjusted their original plan, after it was rejected by An Bord Pleanala in February as being unsuitable for the Dublin skyline.

It comes as news emerges of an offer from the Sport Minister to make land available to the HSE to facilitate the 650-million euro children’s hospital at the sports campus at Abbotstown in west Dublin.

It means there are now 15 proposed locations for the hospital to choose from.

Master of the Rotunda Hospital, Doctor Sam Coulter Smith – says the adjustments his consortium has made its plan will not mean there will be less room for services.
