The proposal for the wind farm on a 146 hectare site near Kilmihil was first submitted by Mid-Clare Renewable Energy Ltd on September 9th 2020.

The development was to consist of ten turbines, each with a maximum height of 170m , while in the application MCRE state that the project would create 72 jobs and a community benefit fund eventually worth €5.6m.

The contentious plans received over 100 public submissions, chiefly relating to concerns of shadow, flicker, noise pollution and disturbance to visual amenity.

Among those to object was the Cahermurphy Windfarm No II Opposition Group, whose subsequent appeal has now reactivated the case with An Bord Pleanála.

The group had previously requested that the local authority refrain from making a decision before new government guidelines on windfarm developments were published in 2020 but these regulations are still outstanding.

In March , An Bord Pleanála upheld Clare County Council’s decision to refuse planning permission.

Now that this decision has been quashed in the high court , the development will be reviewed again , with a final call to be made on April 24th of next year.
