They’re pursuing the case against the 55 year old despite the Supreme Court’s refusal to extradite him over the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in West Cork in 1996.

It seems the French authorities have not ruled out trying Ian Bailey in his absence for the murder of French film producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Today lawyers will apply on their behalf to Dublin District Court for access to Mr Bailey’s personal diaries which were seized by gardaí  in 1997 and 1998 during the investigation into her death.

They were returned to the 55 year old after the DPP made it clear in 2007 that the former journalist would never be tried for the killing.

However gardaí  were given consent to retain copies of the diaries and it’s these copies that are now being sought by the French investigation team.
