In the second quarter of 2021, 101 fraud and deception offences were recorded here in Clare – a 40 percent jump from the first three months of the year and a near threefold increase on the same period in 2019.

The number of public order offences detected in this county has also risen to 100 in that three month period from 83 in the first quarter, though remains below pre-pandemic levels.

Meanwhile, burglaries and thefts appear to be falling in Clare.

Though 158 such offences were recorded here between April and June, that’s a 20 percent drop on the previous quarter and a 40 percent fall from two years ago.

Incidents relating to assault, drink driving and criminal damage have all fallen since the onset of the pandemic.

Senior Gardai here have previously told Clare FM that they’re satisfied they have adequate resources to continue combatting crime across the county.
