Four Clare People named on latest Tax defaulters list

A Clare businessman has made a settlement of over one million euro with Revenue for the under declaration of capital gains tax.

Cyril Whelan is one of four Clare people who have been named on the latest list of tax defaulters, along with the construction company of Wexford TD Mick Wallace.

Cyril Whelan, with an address at Loughville, Lahinch Road in Ennis, has agreed a payment deal to the Revenue Commissioners worth 1,163,025 euro.

The settlement with the wall & floor tiles supplier & fitter comes following an audit, which found an under declaration of capital gains tax.  It contains a penalty payment of over 135 thousand euro and is one of six settlements in the first quarter worth in excess of a million.

Three other Clare cases have been published in this latest list.  Company director John Flynn, with an address at 9 Radharc na Locha, Ballyalla, Ennis, has agreed a deal for 39,000 following an under declaration of income tax.

While two companies with addresses at Kilfearagh, Kilkee made settlements over under-declaration of VAT.

Construction Contractors M&D Partnership have agreed a payment of over 135 thousand euro, paying almost 22 thousand euro in penalties, while DFS Construction have agreed a settlement worth over 55 thousand euro.

In all, 129 cases of default were registered in the three month period between January and March 2012 – with settlements or determinations totalling 29.6 million euro.

Meanwhile five Clare residents were named in a second Revenue list which contains details of 459 people who were prosecuted in court for various tax offences.
