Four Arrested In Clare As Part Of Operation Thor Targetting Rural Crime

Four men have been arrested in Clare as part of an investigation into travelling crime in rural parts of the MidWest.

Gardaí from the Clare and Limerick divisions, as well as members of the armed Regional Support Units, made the arrests as part of Operation Thor.

Four men were discovered committing a burglary at a property on the Kildysart Road, near Ballynacally, shortly after 5 o’clock this evening.

A man in his late nineties who was the sole occupant in the house at the time, wasn’t physically harmed by the intruders.

The arrests form part of a joint operation between the Gardaí in Clare and in Limerick into an increase in the instances of travelling criminals targeting rural homes.

The men – one aged in his teens, two in their 30s and one in his 40s – are being detained at Ennis and Shannon Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

They can be held for an initial period of six hours.
