Fossils Dating Back 330 Million Years Found In Limestone On Coast Of Doolin

Abandoned fossil burrows dating back 330 million years have been found in limestone rock on the coast of Doolin.

The burrows were excavated by marine creatures in very shallow seas at a time when County Clare was located nearer the Equator, and looked and felt a lot like the tropical Bahamas today.

Geologist for Clare County Council and the Burren Dr Eamon Doyle came across the fossils while out walking.
