Former Shannon Mayor admits broken promise over power sharing pact

The former Mayor of Shannon admits he broke promises as part of a power sharing pact which resulted in Labour’s Greg Duff being elected as Cathaoirleach instead of Independent Patricia McCarthy.

Fine Gael’s Mike Fleming voted against his party colleagues at last night’s Annual General Meeting to elect a new first citizen in Shannon.

In 2009 Clr Fleming signed up to an agreement with his fellow party colleagues and Clr McCarthy to support each other in a mayoral vote but last night decided not to follow through on it for the final election.
