A former and long standing director of Shannon Airport believes the Midwest facility must continue to receive some form of state aid if its to survive into the future.
In an interview to be broadcast on Clare Fm’s Morning Focus, Liam Skelly who served as Shannon’s director from 1979 to 1992 and was also Aer Rianta International’s first director general feels the current set up has in no small part led to the airport’s downturn.
Minister Leo Varadkar will announce his future plans for the airport in the coming weeks, amid suggestions that Clare’s international airport is set to be owned and operated by local interests
Liam Skelly claims decision’s by past governments to introduce the DAA set up is central to the problems now but believed Shannon cant be cut entirely from state aid.
