Donald Trump is returning to West Clare next month.
The former US President is planning a stay at his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg at the end of August.
Shannon Airport, though, says it has ‘no information at this time’ of such a visit.
Donald Trump last visited Clare back in 2019, when he graced the Oval Office, and came with his two sons Eric and Donald Jnr.
His last private trip was back in 2015.
Now once again a private citizen, though possibly preparing a 2024 election bid, Mr Trump is due back in Doonbeg towards the end of next month.
Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg has confirmed to Clare FM this lunchtime that the former US President will be in West Clare for a ‘private visit for two nights’ at the end of August.
The entourage is due to land via private jet at Shannon Airport and security is expected to be ‘tight’, though Shannon Group has told Clare FM today it has ‘no information at this time’ of the visit.
A significant security operation is believed to already be underway ahead of the visit, with checkpoints set for between Shannon and Ennis and on to the Kilrush Road towards the West of the county when it takes place.
However, it’s not expected to cause any road closures or major disruption to traffic.
It’s believed Mr Trump will travel with a security detail, with former US Presidents receiving Secret Service protection after they leave office unless they decline the privilege.
Additional security arrangements are expected to be put in place in Ireland with members of the Gardai’s National Crime and Security Intelligence Service and Emergency Response Unit likely to be deployed.
