A former Mayor of Clare is confident funding for major upgrades at the Killaloe Coast Guard Station can be secured following a Ministerial visit later today.
Minister of State for Transport , Jack Chambers will attend the East Clare base this evening before launching the Shannon Economic Impact Report at Shannon Airport on Friday.
Although the Coast Guard has identified Lough Derg as an ideal location for a national training hub, the Killaloe unit which consists of 23 on-call personnel are currently working out of a steel container with a single toilet.
