A former teacher at an Ennis secondary school is being remembered as someone who made a “deep impression” on everyone whose path he crossed.
Reverend Father Joe McMahon will be laid to rest this afternoon, having passed away on Sunday at the age of 75.
The Miltown Malbay native taught at St. Flannan’s College for four decades, during which time he was an Irish and Latin teacher, while also serving as a Career Guidance Counsellor.
Father Joe celebrated his golden jubilee as a priest in 2023 in the same year he left St. Flannan’s to take up the role of parish priest of Scariff.
His friend and longtime colleague, St. Flannan’s Principal Father Ignatius McCormack says the outpouring of grief in recent days is a testament to the effect he had on those around him.
