Former Ennis Mayor Calls For Vehicular Access On O’Connell Street To Be Retained

A former Mayor of Ennis is doubling down on his stance that traffic must be allowed to pass through O’Connell Street going forward.

It comes at the temporary pedestrianisation of the Ennis street comes to an end today, coinciding with the first phase of Ennis Public Realm works getting underway.

Phase one of the project will include the upgrading of footpaths, underground cabling as well as improved wall-mounted street lighting and is expected to conclude in April 2024.

Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says while the works will bring welcome benefits, it’s vital for emergency vehicles and business owners that the street doesn’t return to being pedestrianised in the future.
