Former Ennis Mayor Believes Delay In Smoky Coal Ban Will Result In Increased Hospital Admissions

A former Mayor of Ennis believes a delay in a nationwide ban on smoky coal will result in increased hospitalisations across the region.

Pollution levels in the county town have been up to 12 times higher than recommended levels in recent months, with smoky coal purchases in Ennis and Clarecastle banned a number of years ago.

Draft legislation to extend the ban across the country will now only be made available towards the end of this year.
