The former Ennis Chamber President claims Ireland should implement legislation, similar to that of other European Union members, to address the disparity in earnings between genders.
It comes as the latest CSO analysis reveals that in Clare, men earned an average of 26% more last year in comparison to women.
This disparity jumps to 40% between the ages of 50-59, with men earning €69,000 while women were paid an average of €49,000.
Partner at Cashin/Clancy Solicitors, Sheila Lynch, says imposing financial penalties on companies found to have to high a wage disparity will help to greater align average earnings.
