The former finance director of Anglo Irish Bank William McAteer has appeared in court, charged with crimes under company law.
The 61 year old of Auburn Villas, Rathgar has been remanded on bail until October 8th when the book of evidence is due to be served.
Dressed in an open shirt and jacket William McAteer sat quietly with his hands on his lap during his brief court appearance.
Det Sgt Catharina Gunne of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation gave evidence he was arrested on the N7 at Rathcoole at 9.50 am this morning.
He was conveyed to the Bridewell Garda Station and charged with 16 breaches of the Companies Acts in July 2008.
It’s alleged that being an officer of Anglo Irish Bank he permitted the bank to give unlawful financial assistance to 16 named individuals so they could buy Anglo shares.
Among the names are the group known as the Maple Ten or the Golden Circle of Irish investors and all 6 Quinn family members bar the bankrupt Sean Quinn.
The court heard he made no reply to the charges. The DPP is directing trial on indictment.
