A forensic examination is taking place today at the site of a major fire in Smithstown which caused extensive damage to a local business.
The blaze broke out at Tony’s Auto Repair on the Link Road shortly before three and four units of the fire brigade from Shannon and Ennis attended the scene.
A adjoining restaurant with up to 30 customers and staff- was evacuated along with a nearby beauty salon which suffered smoke damage while extensive damage was caused to up to ten vehicles in the garage including a recovery truck, vans and cars.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control after several hours and left the scene shortly after 6.30
The area remains sealed off today while a forensic examination is completed but its believed the fire was accidental.
