The IFA has cited the fodder crisis, money worries and increased pressure due to farm inspections as the reasons behind the increase.

A report in today’s Sunday Independent also singles out West Clare as being hardest hit, with an estimated seven deaths by suicide in the last number of months.

The IFA has linked up with suicide charities such as Pieta House to combat this, with meetings being held across the country.
