Flow of water through Parteen Weir falls further

There'll be a further reduction in the flow of water from Parteen Weir today as levels in Lough Derg continue to drop.

Water discharge will be reduced to 335 cubic metres per second from 3 o'clock this afternoon, the third reduction since the beginning of last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Inagh-based CEO of Muintir na Tíre is warning the Government that the issue of flooding may be going away – but it will be back.

The association which focuses on community development says communities have been decimated due to the fact that they can't get cover for insurance.

It has made a number of recommendations to Government including that the Memorandum of Understanding with the insurance industry be amended to guarantee cover in areas where flood protection works have been carried out.
