Flood Insurance Scheme Shot Down

The Minister with responsibility for the OPW has poured cold water on a Clare County Council proposal to establish a national flood insurance scheme.

The local authority wrote to Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran following a motion by Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn, who’s highlighted the fact that many people living in flood-prone areas here can’t get insurance.

But the proposal has been shot down as it’s up to insurers themselves to decide the level of cover they priovide.
