Flood Funding A Drop In The Pond Of What’s Needed In South East Clare

New funding that has been announced to tackle flood issues in part of South East Clare has been dismissed as a drop in the pond of what's required.

The OPW has allocated 49,500 euro for the reconstruction of an embankment at Mount Catherine in Clonlara, where two houses were flooded and a number of others were under threat of becoming submerged.

However, the works will not protect the nearby community of Springfield which was again the site of major flooding last winter.

Clonlara Councillor Michael Begley is welcoming the funding and expects the work will be carried out relatively quickly but he insists that moves need to be taken to protect the entire area.
