A transatlantic passenger flight has diverted to Shannon Airport after crew declared a medical emergency.
Royal Jordanian flight RJA-283 was travelling from Washington in the United States to Amman in Jordan this morning when crew made contact with air traffic controllers in Ireland reporting they had an ill passenger on board.
The crew was cleared to reroute to Shannon, as requested, while the National Ambulance Service was advised of the diverting aircraft.
The Boeing 787-800 jet landed at Shannon just after 8 o’clock this morning and the patient was assessed at the airport before being transported to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
The flight continued its journey to the Jordanian capital just after half past ten.
