It follows a decision by the National Ambulance Service not to provide additional ambulance cover during the event, which kicks off on August 14th.

Over 400,000 people are expected to desend on Ennis in just over two week's time for the world's largest traditional music festival and paramedics had hoped that additional ambulance cover would be put in place.

They requested three extra ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and extra staff but the National Ambulance Service has turned down that request.

The NAS has confirmed that it was "considered, but in keeping with previous years" it hasn't "committed to providing additional resources".

The Event Coordinator for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann admits that additional resources would have been a boost.

But Adrian Jackson says a plan is in place to ensure that adequate medical services are available.

The Mayor of Ennis has expressed her disappointment, saying the national ambulance service is failing to support the event.

Councillor Ann Norton has acknowledged the huge work being carried out by the Irish Red Cross and the Civil Defence to ensure that all eventualities are covered – but she fears it may not be enough.
