Clare disability rights activist Ann Marie Flanagan has become the latest Clare candidate to be eliminated from contention for a Seanad seat.
Nominated for the Administrative panel, Flanagan was one of two Clare native’s hoping to pick up one of the seven seats available, with Martin Conway firmly in the hunt to regain his spot in the upper house of the Oireachtas.
Ennistymon native Flanagan had been backed by Independent Living Movement Ireland and campaigned for greater opportunities for people with disabilities to integrate with society.
She amassed 26,000 first preference votes before being eliminated on the sixth count after accruing 36,510 total votes.
