Five thousand intern places will be announced today as part of the Government’s new National Internship Scheme.
The scheme – which was announced as part of the Government’s Jobs Initiative – will last two years and will see companies being encouraged to take on an intern for a period of up to nine months.

In return job seekers will get an additional 50 euro a week on top of their job seeker benefits.
Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton says a number of measures have been put in place to ensure the interns aren’t exploited by employers.
