Five Hundred Thousand Euro Allocated To Clare Social Housing Revamp

Over five hundred thousand euro has been announced towards the refurbishment of vacant social housing units in Clare.

It’s part of a 24 million euro announcement by Housing Minister Simon Coveney under the Government’s Vacant Properties Voids Programme.

514,000 euro will go towards bringing 24 properties up to scratch here in Clare where there’s over 2,000 applicants on the social housing list.


Clare County Council’s Director of Social Development admits the number of houses is relatively small in the context of the two and a half thousand homes owned by the local authority.

The Chairman of the social Development Committee has also welcomed today’s announcement but says it’s only a drop in the pond of what’s needed.
