The Ennis Building firm at the centre of controversy over stalled work at one of its major sites, has insisted they’re trading as usual.
M. Fitzgibbon Builders Ltd. stopped work on a major project in Kerry this week prompting reports that the company may be going into receivership, but the firm has told Clare FM that’s not the case.
Around 30 people are understood to be currently employed by M. Fitzgibbon Builders Ltd. which has been in operation in Ennis since 1985.
Work was stopped on one of the firms major contracts in Tralee on Monday – a council regeneration project, and the local authority there has said it hasn’t been given a reason why.
Work on other Fitzgibbon projects like a new Supervalu Store in Miltown Malbay and an extension corridor at Ennis General Hospital are thought to be nearing completion but calls aren’t being answered at the company’s headquarters on the Gort Road in Ennis.
However, Clare FM was contacted by one of the Directors of M. Fitzgibbon Builders Ltd. last evening with a short statement insisting the company is "trading as normal" and is "not in receivership" .."at this time".
The Director declined to answer questions on the future of the company or what’s likely to happen to their ongoing projects including the abandoned building site in Tralee.
