Passenger numbers at Shannon Airport are finally starting to soar -following a five year decline.
New figures for June due to be released by the Irish Aviation Authority show the first monthly growth in passenger numbers at Clare’s International Airport since 2007/2008.
It’s also an 8 percent increase compared to June 2012 – which saw a 40 percent plus decline in numbers at Shannon.
The Mid West airport had been loss making since 2008 and passenger numbers have plummeted by over 60% from a peak in 2007 of 3.62 million to 1.39 million in 2012, so this reversal in fortunes during its first year of independence is being broadly welcomed by management.
Chairperson of Shannon Airport Authority Rose Hynes is urging people to continue supporting them.
