Firefighters Respond To Overnight Fire At Element Six

Fire crews from Shannon and Ennis were called to deal with a fire in the early hours of the morning.

The blaze broke out at around 3.30am at the Element 6 facility in the Shannon Free Zone.

Shannon fire service responded to the call after the plant’s own automated fire alarm was activated. On arrival they found that workers had already been evacuated.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to investigate and establish the seriousness of the blaze.

Soon afterwards, additional resources were requested and an appliance and crew were mobilised from Ennis. The fire was quickly brought under control.

One machine and part of the extraction system are understood to have been damaged.

Once the scene had been declared safe, workers were allowed back into the building. No one was injured in the incident and the fire is understood to have started accidentally.
