Ruan Councillor Joe Arkins is the new Mayor of Clare.
The Fine Gael Representative was proposed by Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulqueen and seconded by Kilrush Fianna Fail Councillor PJ Kelly as part of a cross party power sharing pact.
Councillor Arkins has accepted the Mayoral Chain from outgoing Chairman Pat Daly of Fianna Fail at the Annual General Meeting of Clare County Council which is continuing this afternoon.
The meeting has heard that Joe Arkins is the first Ruan resident to ever take on the role of Mayor and that his great grandfather was part of the first Clare County Council in 1899.
And it’s a Fine Gael double at the AGM of Clare County Council as Sixmilebridge Councillor John Crowe has been unanimously elected as Deputy Mayor of the County
