Fine Gael want to see change for Euro elections

The Fine Gael party says it would be desirable if Clare was to be moved into the South constituency for European elections.

However, officials admit such a move is unlikely.

In a submission to the constituency commission, Ireland’s ruling party explores the revision of constituency borders for European elections, the next one of which will be held in 2014.

The party’s report claims that due to population levels, maintaining the status quo is the ‘only viable’ option, even though it says such a change would be preferable.

Clare is currently part of the North and West constituency, which ranges from Donegal to the Banner county, and includes 11 counties and ranges from Donegal to the Banner county.
