Finance Minister Stops Short Of Guaranteeing M20 Motorway Will Go Ahead

The Finance Minister has stopped short of guaranteeing the M20 Limerick to Cork motorway will go ahead.

It comes as a Green Party TD yesterday claimed that the road isn’t going to happen in the next five years, but a number of Fine Gael Oireachtas members, including Clare Senator Martin Conway, have since reassured the project is progressing.

Concerns have emerged that M20 Limerick to Cork Motorway won’t go ahead, if the Greens decide to go into Government.

It comes after Green Party TD Ossian Smith said yesterday that construction of the long-awaited infrastructure would not start in the next five years.

Deputy Smyth claimed such projects are unlikely to see shovels in the ground during the lifetime of the next government.

He later clarified on twitter that the road wasn’t due to be completed before 2025 and will continue as planned.

A number of Fine Gael Oireachtas members, including Clare’s Fine Gael Senator have since reassured that work on the M20 motorway is progressing.

But Senator Martin Conway says it will take time to complete the project.

Despite this, the Finance Minister has stopped short of guaranteeing its progress.

Paschal Donohoe insists that party will be arguing in favour of big road projects like the M20 going ahead.

But he’s warning that all three parties will all have a say, if there’s a new government formed.
