The Minister for Finance has confirmed that a local property tax exemption for homeowners affected by Pyrite or Mica doesn’t extend to people in Clare.
Homeowners in Donegal and Mayo, who have access to the Defective Concrete Block Scheme, were this week granted a six-year exemption from the tax, but the scheme isn’t currently open to homeowners here.
It’s thought at least 50 homes across Clare, as well as two council housing estates are affected by Pyrite, which causes walls to crumble and Clare County Council is leading a study, which it’s hoped will ultimately result in those affected here being granted access to the scheme.
Responding in the Dáil to a question from Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD, Cathal Crowe, Minister Paschal Donohoe has reassured that the Housing Minister is looking at the Government’s broader response to issues caused by Pyrite and he says the extent of the scheme will be examined as part of that review:
