Final Preparations For G8 Summit

The north is on a heightened state of alert as more protests are expected against the G8 summit, which starts in Fermanagh tomorrow.

Demonstrations held yesterday in Belfast passed off peacefully, as hundreds of police officers and armoured vehicles lined the route.

The two day meeting of world leaders starts tomorrow at the Lough Erne resort.Meanwhile, an Ireland East MEP is calling on the Taoiseach to press strongly at the G8 Summit for a new international taxation framework.

Nessa Childers, is calling for a system that will prevent multinational companies avoiding or evading billions of euro’s in unpaid taxes.

Tax avoidance and evasion by multinationals is one of three main topics for discussion at the summit meeting of leaders of the world’s wealthiest countries,which get’s underway tomorrow at Lough Erne Resort, in County Fermanagh.  

The European Union is represented at the Summit and the Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be there in his role as current President of the Council of the European Union.
