Lissycasey Post Office closes its doors for the final time today.

It was one of five earmarked for closure as part of the reconfiguration of services by An Post – Doonbeg has already closed, Cooraclare has since been saved, while the future of Craggagh-Fanore, Cree and Kilfenora hang in the balance.

The most recent correspondence saw An Post issue letters last week advising them to collect their pensions and other payments in the Kildysart branch from this Friday.

An appeal to retain postal services has been lodged on behalf of the local community, and no final decision has been made on this as of yet.

Long-time post office campaigner Francie Daly was one of those who received the letter and says the loss of the service is going to have a serious impact on their local economy.
