The claim was leveled during discussions on a new bill which will allow for a new combined Limerick authority to be established, with suggestions several South-East Clare communities should fall under its remit.

Limerick Fianna Fail TD Niall Collins believes Shannon Banks, Westbury and the Clare campus at UL should all come under new authority along with Carrig Meade and Athlunkard – something hotly disputed by Clare representatives
Deputy Collins believes it would have huge support; however this has been roundly rejected by Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara.
