The Fianna Fail party is due to select local election candidates in the Shannon area this evening.

6 Shannon seats on Clare County Council are up for grabs next May, and the party is expected to select 4 candidates at the Oakwood Arms tonight to contest the local elections – including two sitting Councillors.
Cathal Crowe from Meelick, which will be part of the new Shannon Municipal District, is expected to be chosen along with Pat McMahon from Newmarket on Fergus.
New candidate Louise Roche McNamara is also seeking a nomination along with ex Councillor and former County Mayor Pat O’Gorman who lost his council seat in 2004.
