Fine Gael’s Helen McEntee is on course to win the by-election held following the death of her father Shane.

She topped the tally with 38.4 percent of the vote with Fianna Fáil’s Thomas Byrne second on 33.4%.
It’s a bad day for Labour with the party’s Ben Holmes being knocked in to fifth place on 3.9 %
Sinn Féin’s Darren O’Rourke got 12.9% while Direct Democracy Ireland’s Ben Gilroy took 6.5% of the vote.
The official result wont be known until later today
