Clare’s opposition TD has criticised the government’s refusal to extend the deadline of payment for the household charge.

Home-owners have until the end of the month to pay the 100 euro tax, though less than 20% of those who are required to do so have registered.
Fianna Fail are now calling on the government to defer the introduction of the charge until September, and will introduce a bill in the coming days proposing that this occurs.
The party’s Clare TD Timmy Dooley says a re-think on the issue is necessary, and feels the coalition has mishandled the introduction of this charge from the outset.
