Fears Raised Over Future of Rural Post Offices

A representative of Postmasters in the Mid West is predicting that post offices will be wiped out within years.

Clarecastle-based Tom O'Callaghan of the Irish Postmasters Union says he expects at least half of all outlets to close by the end of 2018.

His comments come as the Government announces the creation of a special group to see how branches can provide more services.

Mr O'Callaghan says the planned closure of Cratloe post office will devastate the community and is calling on Clare's Oireachtas members to fight for the survival of post Offices.
