A European Court of Justice Ruling is forcing Ireland to adapt planning regulations regarding drainage – failure to do this could see the government pay fines of more than 33 thousand euro per day.
However, such a change could be costly for landowners, who may have to apply for planning permission on already existing drains.
Clare Labour TD Michael McNamara fears this would hurt a number of people, particularly farmers, throughout the county.
