Fears for 20 Clare teachers under budget cuts

Clare secondary schools could lose up to 20 teachers if dramatic education cuts go ahead.

That’s according to the Teachers Union of Ireland who were responding to reports of plans to cut teacher numbers at second level by 1,000.

While an increased pupil/teacher ratio means bigger classes at primary level, the TUI has explained that it will mean cutbacks in subjects in secondary schools at a time when higher education standards are seen as key to our economic recovery.
