It’s feared there won’t be a single farmer in the west of Ireland who’ll be able to survive without an off-farm income in as little as five years.
IFAC’s Irish Farm Report for 2019 has highlighted major concerns for the sector, with low profitability leaving many farmers questioning the long-term viability of their business.

It found that 86% of farms have no clear succession plan in place, while some 80% have an off-farm source of income coming in to make ends meet.
