Last year, around 250,000 euro was spent to raise a road in Ballycar, Newmarket on Fergus in an effort to deal with future flooding there, but many areas remain underwater.

Sixmilebridge Fianna Fail Councillor Alan O'Callaghan says the work has merely diverted water from one area to another.

He fears current floodwaters in the area may not subside for sometime.
